Aug. 16, 2010 - The University of Murcia performed a research project at the site of Los Villares.

The professor of archeology at the University of Murcia,fallen earth chips Ramallo Asensio, and the archaeologist municipal de Caravaca de la Cruz, Francisco Brotons, have directed an archaeological excavation at the site of Los Villares, located in the Strait Historic Site Cuevas Caravaca de La Encarnacion . The archaeological work has identified a prolonged occupation of the place, which so far falls between the fourth century BC and the Middle Ages.

The local archaeologist and director of the Archaeological Museum of La Soledad has explained "that the polls have been conducted with the intention to determine as far as possible the historical and cultural sequence of this enclave and contrast the results of the excavation with the data obtained surface prospecting undertaken before. The municipal archaeologist pointed out that in this place it has placed its enclaves of great interest as the Ibero-Roman sanctuary Cerro de la Ermita de la Encarnacion, where are the structures of the oldest Roman temples in the Iberian Peninsula, partially preserved and embedded in one's own Christian chapel.
